Word Today 11/12/2011
Wis 18:14-16; 19:6-9
Lk 18:1-8
In today’s Gospel, Jesus encourages us to persist in praying and never get discouraged, assuring us that the Father will not delay in helping His children who plead with Him night & day.
Of course “delay” is relative. To a 3-yr old girl asking for a tricycle, a 1-year delay is so long for it is 30% of her lifetime. But for her 30-yr old father who has to balance the family needs, 1 year is only 3% of his lifetime.
God isĀ outside of time and His timing is far different from ours. “With God, one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” (2Pet 3:8)
Then Jesus turns the table and asks, how is YOUR faith? (Lk 18:8)
Are we delaying our promise to “forgive those who have sinned against us?” Or to “believe in the holy, catholic and apostolic Church?”
God listens to those who persistently pray, whose faith and faithfulness match their prayers.
AMEN.
